SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—APRIL 18, 2017—Rising New York comic Doug Smith makes his Pretty Much the Best Comedy Showdebut, 8 p.m. Saturday, April 28, Underground at Proctors.
Smith made a national splash in 2016 with a well-received appearance on Conan. He has also been seen on the small screen on AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Liveand Fuse TV’s Uproarious.
In 2011, Smith unexpectedly became a hero, intervening in a subway sexual assault that left him with 23 stitches, a large scar across his face and the insult-to-injury pain of a difficult law suit. Five years later, he turned tragedy to comedy with a web series called Secret Weapon, which received high praise from numerous comedy websites and was a finalist at the Channel 101 festival.
Since that time, Smith has become a staple on the festival circuit, with stops at the Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival, Bridgetown Comedy Festival and the NY Comedy Festival, where he was chosen to host six sold out shows for Norm Macdonald.
Smith co-hosts the stand-up/variety show See You in Hell, which, in 2014, The Comedy Bureau listed in the Top 100 Best Things in Comedy. The following year, Smith was a finalist in Caroline’s March Madnesscompetition as well as theNew York’s Funniestcompetition.
Pretty Much the Best Comedy Showdebutwill also feature Ethan Ullman (The Howard Stern Show), Thomas Attila Lewis (Just for Laughs Festival) and additional comedians for a full night of standup comedy entertainment!
