Classic soul is back at Proctors, Sunday, March 26!
Two quintessential Motown vocal groups, both members of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, come to Proctors on one bill, 8 p.m. Sunday, March 26.
The Temptations and The Four Tops helped to define the sound of 60s soul and R&B, with incredible, indelible vocal blends and impossible catalogs of great songs.
Hits from The Temptations include “Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me),” “My Girl,” “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Papa Was a Rolling Stone,” “Treat Her Like a Lady,” “(I Know) I’m Losing You,” and “For Your Love,” among others.
The Four Tops can choose from “Walk Away Renee,” “Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch),” “Reach Out, I’ll Be There,” “Bernadette,” “Baby I Need Your Lovin’,” “It’s The Same Old Song,” and “Shake Me, Wake Me.”
The Temps and Tops were rivals at Motown Records, and each did its utmost to create bigger hits and hotter stage shows. Today, with a mix of new and classic members, the groups are still making the most of essential songs from the Baby Boom soundtrack.
As reported in the New York Times, “Some of the members’ gold-lamé jackets (are) a few sizes larger than they were decades ago, but their voices are strong and their choreography taut and precise, with bits of stage business in every song and moves that some fans first saw on black-and-white TV.”
Tickets for The Temptations and The Four Tops, $25–$70.50, are available at the Box Office at Proctors; by phone at 518.346.6204; and online at proctors.org.
The Temptations and The Four Tops at Proctors is sponsored by Hill, Gosdeck & McGraw, LLC and Sunmark Federal Credit Union.
