A Good Trip is psychedelic comedy in its truest form
Shane Mauss is on a good trip. In fact, A Good Trip is the title of his current 75-city psychedelic comedy tour, which lands at Proctors, 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6.
Mauss—winner of HBO Comedy Arts Festival’s Best Stand up Comic Award—has been a small screen fixture, with appearances on TBS (Conan), Comedy Central, Netflix and other outlets.
In October 2015, Mauss offered an exclusive performance at Proctors, called This Is Your Shane on Drugs. That program, exploring the nexus of comedy and mind-altering substances, was a launching pad of sorts for A Good Trip, which is a deeper exploration of that same connection.
“Unlike a typical stand-up act that is 45 minutes of set-up, punch, repeat,” Mauss says on his website, “this is an hour-and-a-half show that is part stand-up, part funny stories of experiences and part TED Talk.
A self-described insane teenager, Mauss’ adolescence was filled with trips in his head and trips to the local police station. But Mauss turned things around and, after barely getting his diploma and living one step from homelessness, he is now interviewing top scientists about the meaning of life on his hit podcast, Here We Are.
Psychedelics, though, have remained a constant. Take a journey down the rabbit hole with Mauss for some deep, authentic laughs about hallucinations, scientific insights, near-death experiences and a whole lot of weird.
