Classic animated film The Triplets of Belleville with live score at Proctors
Kidnapped by mysterious, square-shouldered henchmen, a Tour de France cyclist named Champion is spirited across the ocean to the teeming metropolis of Belleville. His near-sighted grandmother and faithful dog follow his trail and are taken in by a trio of eccentric jazz-era divas. The motley sleuths follow the clues to an underground speakeasy, where they entertain the crowd and now the chase is on!
The much beloved animated film The Triplets of Belleville is screened with live accompaniment at Proctors, as Canadian composer Benoît Charest leads a nine-piece combo, Le Terrible Orchestre de Belleville, in the internationally-lauded original score for the film, including the Oscar® and Grammy Award® nominated song, “Belleville Rendez-Vous.”
In the spirit of the film, Le Terrible Orchestre de Belleville immediately transports audiences to the exciting streets of Paris in the 20s, with Le Jazz Hot streaming out of glowing doorways.
Live Foley adds in-the-moment sound effects to the mix.
“Seeing and hearing the musicians play the soundtrack live…reminded one of how infectious and listenable Charest’s mixture of swing and jazz and a bit of pop really is,” raved Ottawa Jazz Scene; and “The work retains its freshness and its potential wonder. It remains brilliant and loveable, blown about by winds of zaniness,” says Le Devoir.
